Dr. Joseph Mercola just came out with a new book on his approach to combining a Keto diet with intermittent fasting called, KetoFast: Rejuvenate Your Health with a Step-by-Step Guide to Timing Your Ketogenic Meals. His approach is doable for the average person who may not have the discipline to fast or be in sufficient health to undertake a water fast.
He recommends a compressed window of eating, on a daily basis, which requires fourteen hours between the last meal of the day and the first meal the following day. He also recommends not eating 3-4 hours before going to sleep. One day a week is set aside for a longer intermittent fast consisting of only one meal on that day. Dr. Mercola emphasizes the importance of ‘carb re-feeding’ when maintaining a ketogenic diet.
